Annie Louise Jacques McClellan was born in Moulton, AL on September 30, 1926
to the late James Samuel and Minnie Fitzgerald Jacques. She accepted Christ at a
young age and became a member of the CME Church.
The youngest of three daughters, she graduated as Salutatorian of the 1945 class
of Moulton Rosenwald High School. Annie went on to Miles College, Birmingham,
Alabama, where she received a B.S. in Social Studies, English, Commercial Studies
and Math, and was honored to have been Miss Miles, May Queen, and Treasurer
of Iota Phi Lambda Sorority among others. She did further study at the University
of North Alabama, University of Alabama, and the University of Mississippi.
Married to the late LeRoy McClellan, four children were born to their union,
Althea (deceased), Eleanor, Marilyn, and LeRoy. She moved her membership to
Tennessee Valley Community Church and Center and remained active there until
her death.
McClellan taught a total of 34 years at Moulton High, Burrell Slater High, W. C.
Handy Elementary, Coffee High and Bradshaw High.
After retirement, she became more active in civic and community groups,
volunteering with Hospice of the Shoals, Lauderdale County Office of Social
Security, and A&E Hospice. She was a member of the following
boards, organizations, and clubs: Terry Chapter #599 OES, Altruistic Elite Social
Club, Church Women United, AARP Chapter #273, Lifewise, Community Action
Agency of Northwest Alabama, Golden Age Club of TVCC, Florence Lauderdale
Retired Teacher Association, RSVP.
She leaves to cherish her memories: two daughters, Eleanor and Marilyn
McClellan, son, LeRoy McClellan, a large extended family, and a host of other
relatives and friends.
